10 Tips for Taking Stunning iPhone Photos
In today’s digital age, your iPhone is more than just a phone—it’s a powerful camera that can capture breathtaking photos. It's potential is AMAZING! Whether you’re snapping shots for social media or for personal memories here are some tips to elevate your iPhone photography skills. I have nearly stopped bringing my pro camera on trips just for the convenience sake of my iphone :)
1. Clean Your Lens
A simple but often overlooked tip! Wipe your camera lens with a microfiber cloth to remove smudges and dirt for clearer photos. You can even use the back of your shirt in a pinch! I see foggy lens photos ALL THE TIME and cringe.
2. Use Natural Light
Yes- I'm a natural light photographer, so I PREACH good lighting. Good lighting is key. Try to shoot in natural light whenever possible. Early mornings and golden hour (just before sunset) offer soft, flattering light.
3. Tap to Focus
Tap on your subject on the screen to ensure it's in focus. This helps create sharp images and allows you to be able to control exposure.
4. Adjust Exposure Manually
After tapping to focus, slide your finger up or down on the screen to adjust brightness. This gives you more control over the final look of your photo. I JUST learned this trick and it's a good one!
5. Use the Rule of Thirds
Turn on the grid in your camera settings and position your subject along the intersecting lines for a balanced and aesthetically pleasing shot.
6. Avoid Using the Flash
The iPhone’s flash can create harsh shadows and unnatural colors. Instead, use available light sources like lamps or natural light. Facing a window or the sun can make your skin look 100!
7. Experiment with Different Perspectives
Change your angle—try shooting from a low perspective or overhead for more dynamic compositions.
8. Utilize Portrait Mode
For beautiful, professional-looking portraits, use Portrait Mode to create a blurred background (bokeh effect) that makes your subject stand out.
9. Edit Your Photos
Enhance your shots with editing apps like Lightroom, Snapseed, or even the built-in iPhone Photos editor. Adjust brightness, contrast, and saturation for a polished finish. I personally use Lightroom for ALL of my editing- and I have it on my phone as well.
10. Keep It Simple
Sometimes, less is more. Avoid cluttered backgrounds and focus on a single subject to create a striking and clean composition.
With these tips, you can make the most of your iPhone’s camera and stand out from the crowd. Happy shooting!
