Choosing the right photographer to capture your family’s story is an important decision! A great photographer will do more than take pretty pictures—they’ll make your family feel comfortable, capture genuine moments, and create images you’ll cherish forever.

Before booking your next family session, here are 10 essential questions to ask to ensure you find the perfect fit:

Every photographer has a unique style—whether it's candid and documentary, light and airy, or bold and colorful. Make sure their aesthetic matches your vision!

2. Do you specialize in family photography?

Experience matters! A photographer who specializes in working with families will know how to keep kids engaged and capture those real, in-between moments. I like ensuring that my families feel relaxed and confident in front of the camera by giving clear poses, but also utilizing the natural movement and candid family moments.

3. Where do sessions take place?

Do they offer in-home lifestyle sessions, outdoor locations, or a mix of both? Choose a setting that feels most comfortable for your family! I offer lifestyle, in-home family sessions or sessions in the community!

4. How long is a session?

Some photographers offer quick mini sessions, while others focus on full-length shoots for a more relaxed experience. Consider what works best for your family’s needs.

5. What’s included in the package?

Ask about the number of edited images, print options, and whether digital files are included. This helps set expectations upfront!

6. How do you handle working with young children?

Kids can be unpredictable, and that’s okay! A patient photographer with experience in family sessions will know how to create a fun and relaxed environment. I always encourage special treats such as lollipops or gummies to entice kiddos to get excited.
